It's a "hot-swap" drive. You have to get the drive from HP and it's a way to easily swap the drive with other HP and Compaq computers.

^^ Yup

Only thing is they use usb1.1 and are 2.5" laptop drives. So they are slow and expensive. You'd be better off with a 3.5" external hdd

I wouldn't buy a no-name external hard drive--I'd get something like this:

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16822207014

It has eSATA--a bonus if your motherboard supports it.

No name? The one I found is Western Digital.

Don't get a Western Digital. They have a very sneaky/unethical warranty that starts from the date of manufacture, not the date of purchase. Completely dishonest in my opinion. (We've gotten burned several times recently because of it.)

Lacie drives are of very high quality and durability, however you do pay the price for it... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...900&name=LaCie

If you want something more in the standard range of price, get either a Hitachi or Fujitsu; a Seagate will do as well.
