Default win xp setup

My first try went great. All programs on my new maxtor 240 gig were loaded and worked fine, I then attempted to download the coreldraw 9 updates, during which time the computer froze and wouldn't restart. I tried to disengage but could not until the damage was done. I had to go back and set up the new maxtor 240 gig HD again. I set up 4 equal particians with maxblast utility and attempted to reload win 98 full version, (from there I upgrade to win XP). Win setup didn't like maxtor formatting and asked to reformat it again, I agreed. Now win 98 setup said there is an error and it can't format the HD. I tried everything and finally have to go back to DOS6 before the HD would recognize any disk or diskette I put in, program disks and emergency start up diskettes received a "non system" error message. I installed DOS 6, then upgraded to win 98, loaded fine this time. During upgrade to win XP i'm asked to convert to ntfs which I did. This was suppose to delete any other os but it didn't. I now have win XP loaded under DOS 6 and my 240 gig HD only shows 2gigs on one of the 4 particians, the other 3 do not show at all. Is there any way to save the setup without going all the way back and starting over again?
