Question Windows 7 64bit?

New here and got a question:

I currently have a desktop pc running a 32-bit windows vista ultimate. I know you need to have a 64-bit processor to be able to run a 64-bit operating system. I would like to upgrade to 64-bit Windows 7, so if someone can tell me if my processor is good enough that would be great, thanks.

Intel Core 2 Quad CPU 9550 2.83 GHz 12mb cache

I am not 100% sure, but I think that would be fine. Remember though you cant do an upgrade from a 32bit to 64bit. You would have to do a full install.

So I would need to buy the full version and not the upgrade correct?

Or buy the OEM system builders pack and save money...plus you can make a simple call to MS and they will reactivate the licence when you want to put on your 2nd computer!!

..when the Hard Drive dies of course,..

I think you have a misconception here. It doesn't require any better of a CPU to run a 64bit OS then a 32bit OS. They take the same amount of "horse power" it's just a 64bit OS can address more memory locations and use longer word lengths.
