No sound from speakers,Please help

When I try to play cd's or use windows media player I keep getting a pop up window that tells me I have no audio device installed. I opened control panel and clicked on the sounds and audio devices, it tell me there is no audio device installed. I have speakers attached to the built in sound card and when I power them up I hear a clicking sound,power button is lit.
My Mb is a MSI 865GVM2-LS, 1gb ram, P4-2.60ghz cpu, 80 gb HD,logitech mouse,Microtek 14" screen, 2 DVD-CD,RW"s. I had to do a reinstall of window's XP awhile back but other than that nothing has changed. Just not able to play cd's or listen to music from the web.
Any help please.

Check the device manager to make sure your sound driver is installed.

Post back with the result.

I checked the device manager and for media audio controller it shows a yellow question mark. I clicked on that and it says drivers for this device are not installed. I then clicked reinstall drivers by connecting online line, can't find any drivers for it. I went to MSI web site and the only thing that is available for my MB is a bio's update. Should I try that or try and find the disc that came with the MB? If I do a bio's update do I back up my computer first? Or would the driver's be on the Windows XP disc? Should I do a windows repair with that disc first.

I would go with the stock MOBO DVD first if you haven't already done that.

I'm not good with OS's and such, maybe you should ask someone else, but I think XP Repair only applies to the Registry... I'm not sure, don't trust my answer

Get someone else, I might learn something as well

The windows repair won't do you any good, as it doesn't do anything with installing drivers. If you can't find your mobo cd, try googling the mobo model number and see if you can find anything that way.

Another alternative is to spend a bit of money on a program like Driver Genius.

Windows repair is exactly what it says it is. It deletes your existing windows installation and reinstalls windows, but keeps your files, programs, and settings intact. It replaces anything that may be missing. However, should something go wrong during the installation, you could lose everything.
