Well to start off with you will need a tape deck/player with a 3.5mm jack OUTPUT socket. You will then need a soundcard with a LINE IN jack (also 3.5mm). If you do not want to pay out for a new soundcard then im pretty sure that even your onboard PC audio will have a line in jack (for reference the line in jack is the blue coloured one in the middle of the green one and the pink one). Any standard audio cable will connect the two devices (as long as it has 3.5mm jacks on both ends).

Now, onve youve got your tape deck and you sound card connected you will need some software, this is where you might have to pay a little bit of money. After a quick search i found a small prgram that should do the trick, as far as i can see it is free, which is good.

Take a look at it here -- http://www.polderbits.com/download-s...ecorder-uk.htm

I hope this helped you a lot, dragon2309

*EDIT* Sorry about that the above link is only a 14 day trial, but if your organized theres no way of stopping you recording all your tapes in about 10 days and then uninstalling it again, sneaky but still not breaking the law.

LOL, nice taste in music you got there. I went through all this a while back to convert old LP's to mp3's, worked a treat.

Thanks a lot for the great suggestion. Regarding output jack on tape recorder, isnt it true that the recording would be better with the line out phono sockets (if present). And regarding the software, i do have a audio recording software called Total Recorder, i guess this should also be able to do the same job once the voice is channeled thru the sound card.

As long as the program can record from the line-in socket then it will be fine, as for phono sockets.... i havent a clue which is better. Experiment and see.
