Mounting Harddrive

Would it hurt a harddrive if I mounted it in the external 3.5" slot , that way the IDE cable would reach to the external 5'' slots so i could hook up another optical drive?

as long is not touching the ground. like suspended or something cuz is gonna vibrate.
