Default Not Enough CPU for the GPU?

Ok i recently purchased an nVidia 6600 GT w/ 128 mb of ddr3 mem AGP. After downloadin the newly released BF2 it was hard not to notice that my PC could barely handle the graphics on a minuscle resolution of 800X600 and medium graphics settings! I played HL2 and CS:S with this video card and it ran pretty smoothly, not perfect with a few graphic lag spikes. . . but is this problem becuz I dont have a big enough CPU? I currently have an Intel 2.66 Ghz. too small? or is there something else I should know? thankx guys!
