For just music, 8gb would be enough, but if you plan to put a bunch of movies on it, may want to get a bigger one.

The 16GB (I have it) is much more than I need. I hope you aren't going to be carrying around 20 full-length movies, if that's the case then higher capacity will be great. However, my 16GB holds all my apps, about 5 full length movies, a plethora of podcasts (both video and audio), and a pretty hefty music library with about 6GB left!

It depends on how much music you want to listen to.... And you know the apps do take up a certain amount of space, so you can't go app happy with an 8gb if you have quite a few songs on your ipod.

I have the 32GB 1G Touch and I'm currently using 27GB of my space. I've got about 1/3 of my music collection on my iPod Touch, 21 apps and 2 episodes of 30 Rock.
If you don't mind swapping your music in and out of your iPod using iTunes, you could probably get away with the 8GB but what happens when you're on the road or away from the computer and want to listen to something that isn't on your iPod? You have to go home and sync up! Personally, I'm debating between getting the 64GB 3G Touch or the 2G 160GB Classic, and selling my 1G 32GB Touch. -Michael EDIT: Also, keep in mind that the 8GB 3G Touch is identical to the 2G, with the exception of the preloaded software version. I would at least grab the 32GB 3G.

Not quite. The 32/64 GB versions do run faster than the 8 GB version.
