Default Rage against the machine xmas number 1

Ok, not sure if you're aware of this awesome idea but basically a lot of people in the UK are well ticked off that Simon Cowell and his X factor winner always end up getting the much coveted Xmas number 1 spot in the UK music charts. So this year a boat load of people have decided to put something else on the top spot......Rage Against the Machines killing in the name of

now this is a bloody brilliant idea for several reasons
1. Its hilarious
2. No one likes Simon Cowell
3. The song is awesome
4. if it gets to number it that means all those Christmas compilation cd's in the future will have to include it!!!
5. Did I mention its hilarious
6. It shows the power of the consumer and the internet (as if a demonstration was needed)
7. oh yeah its hilarious

SOOOOOOOO everyone go onto itune and buy rage against the machine killing in the name of!!!!!!!!!!
here is a link

tis a brilliant song! Bought mine a few days ago!

Currently on iTunes, Amazon and Play RATM are beating the xfactor.

I think this song was chosen due to what it is about and the "f*** you, I won't do what you tell me" (or as someone on the RATM site said "f*** you, I won't buy what you sell me")

But either way Sony BMG win (both are signed to that label! lol)

Default Rage Against the Machine UK Christmas Number 1

woop, the first time I have listened to the chart show since a few years ago when that cover of mad world got christmas number 1, and only listened to this one because I wanted to hear Joe McEldry (sp?) and simon cowell get screwed over.

For those that haven't heard of it, the X Factor winner, (don't know if you have it in US or elsewhere, it is basically the new pop idol or american idol or whatever you call it there) Joe McEldry, put in his entry for christmas number one; not surprisingly some generic pile of uninspired crap that is instantly forgettable.

For the past 4 years the x factor winner has got the christmas number 1 spot with some boring, same-ol' same-ol' dirge that is totally uninspired and required no talent or skill to write or sing or produce or anything, and a group was started on facebook to try and get "Killing in the name" by Rage Against the Machine to the top spot this year to show that the majority of the British public infact don't like the crap that is being turned out by these shitty pop groups and reality show winners and such.

long story short though, it got the Christmas number 1, putting Joe second in the single sales

thoughts?

=EDIT=

Killing in the Name campaign

In December 2009, a campaign was launched on Facebook and Twitter by Jon and Tracy Morter which generated nationwide publicity and took the track "Killing in the Name" to the coveted Christmas Number One slot in the UK Singles Chart, which had been dominated for four consecutive years from 2005 by winners from the popular TV show The X Factor.[46] Before the chart was announced on 20 December 2009 the Facebook group membership stood at over 950,000, and was acknowledged (and supported) by Tom Morello,[47] Dave Grohl,[48] Paul McCartney,[49] Muse,[50] Fightstar,[51] NME, John Lydon,[52] Bill Bailey,[53] Lenny Henry,[54] BBC Radio 1,[55] Hadouken!,[56] The Prodigy,[57] Stereophonics,[58] BBC Radio 5 Live,[59] and even the 2004 X Factor winner Steve Brookstein,[60] amongst numerous others. The campaign was ultimately successful, and "Killing in the Name" became the number-one single in the UK for Christmas 2009.[61][62]

On the morning of 17 December, Rage Against The Machine played a slightly censored version of "Killing In The Name" live on Radio 5 Live, but four repeats of '**** you I won't do what you tell me' were aired before the song was pulled.[63] During the interview before the song they reiterated their support for the campaign and their intentions to support charity with the proceeds.

The one they played was yea, but they played it on several radio stations before hand and didn't censor it at all

and me in my stupidity failed to notice this until now; the thread is sort of already made, but without the "they won " bit:

Rage against the machine xmas number 1
