Default 'access is denied' message

i have reinstalled windows xp and i cannot access or modify files on another partition. i still have the same login name but i no longer have a password. i think its to do with user permissions but i cant remember how to change them. any help please?

do you want to keep the information on the other partition? If not just delete it and rejoin both partitions.

are you trying to access the documents folder? you might of chosen to protect that directory when you are using that drive.

ok i figured it out.
first needed to turn off simple file sharing (tools>folder options>view etc.)
now in the properties of the drive there is a security tab.
the permissions for the users can be changed here.

Yea, but you'll need to be logged on as an Administrator to change the permissions.
