After running for a while, it develops problems (many programs not responding).
When I restart, I eventually come to a message giving me several choices, one of which is "start windows with last known good config." Now, what I would like to do is repair windows or reinstall windows, but when I enter the setup of my restore DVD and click "install XP" it tells me it can't because the version I am running is later than is on the disk. Is this refering to service pack 2? I have SP2 on my maching, but it was built before SP2. Can I uninstall SP2 and expect the reinstall to work? Can I reinstall windows without disturbing my files? Thanks! |

If you get rid of SP2 you can install over your current windows. However, your files will be deleted during the format portion of the install. Back up your files before hand. If you partition your hard drive and move them to the partition you can save them that way.
