I was ask an interesting question by a friend about SP1 and SP2. I just told him that SP1 has security problems and SP2 has fewer. He didn't semm convince. So if you can give me an answer that would make me look good that would be helpful.
I run SP1 myself, never bothered with SP2 and only used SP1a for a bit. Why? Dont like the extra crap that comes with SP2 and I dont need many (if any) of the fixes. Whitelisting goes a long way. For some of the programming courses, some of the labs are Deepfrozen with SP1 only because SP2 causes too much hassle with some of the stuff that is being done

sp2 has built in firewalls and better security features including reminding about anti virus
Agreed and that does make it a good baseline ... but what about people who have firewalls and update their virus definitions?

tbh, im anti sp2. it cause nothign but troubles and annoyances
Personally i agree but for the group of users who dont have anything at all, its a hell of a good baseline to start from

go with sp2, very very high secuirty, excellent pop-up blocker for IE6 and excellent firewall which blocks Active X, and it reminds u about anti virus and for updating windows
Heeh its a good baseline -- but it's not excellent by any means ... no process control, no indirect process control (ok there's basic process control but nothing substantial). People interested in "high security" setups often dont need reminders to update virus definitions either

how could you even consider SP1 as an OS at this point in time. in a recent study (at my house lol) these are the times that it took for 2 systems to get infected without even using them:
Well not to get too picky, SP1 isnt an OS... it's as the name suggests, a service pack.
