Well, most decent anti-virus software with live protection will be ableo to immediately tell you whne a program is installing malware on your computer. I know Norton did this when I had it, but I don't suggest buying it because it's expensive, and there are better softwares available for cheaper. One I highly recommend is AVG, it has a completely FREE version which you can download, and it has live protection and much more.

A few tips. When installing a program, don't jsut clikc "Next" till' its done. Read where it is installing things, exactly what it's installing, etc. Alot of programs now include searchbars or similiar annoyances, if you just breeze through the install process you might miss the "do not install *blah*" and then you're screwed.
