Default No Monitors 101?!

While I have only recently been a member I have been visiting this forum for a while now when it comes to finding help and getting info on computer hardware. I still don't know where I'd be without the RAM 101 guide; probably sitting here with a stupid grin on my face clutching my 4 gigs with not a clue as to what the word latency had to do with RAM.

But I digress... I have started toying with the idea of buying a new monitor, and after browsing newegg for an hour or so I realized that while I have a fair grasp on CRT technology, LCD is peculiar animal to me indeed. So I ran here ASAP in desperate need to find out what things like contrast ratio and viewing angle are and after finding no "Monitors 101" sticky I feel to the floor quivering in a fetal position and blacked out for an hour or so (standard "my world is collapsing" response).

But anyways, I avoided LCDs for so long due to their low quality compared to CRTs. But now the once blasphemers who spoke of an LCD capable of handling games like a CRT seem to have a respectable following and Oh no! Look! They've brought testimonials! Could it be true?!

So yeah, slap me if a ramble but I'm basically trying to find some sort of guide to dissect all these strange new phrases and words for me so that I can take these mind-numbing feelings of ignorance and self-loathing and convince myself that they just aren't true for at least another day or so.

Any help would be appreciated.
