Are you using the default wireless zero configuration in xp? Did you change/hide the SSID? Are you sure the radio on the router is broadcasting? Drivers for your wireless card installed? Need lots more information to help.

My dad (dumbass) had this problem, it turned out that the little wireless switch at the back of the laptop was turned "off". might be a thing to check. It was like a little sliding button with an antennae on it, just flick it to on and see what happens.

Make sure you have the corect settings for your wirless connection, thats probably why you have limited connectivity. You should be able to right click your connection and find properties/settings for it.

If there is a network key, that is setup on your router, its an enncryption type thing for security, like a password. Whoever setup your router must have know what the key was, you should find out, and type in the key. Thats most likely why you have limited access.
Ive seen that before, where you can connect to a router, limited access, you would be connected, but unable to access any of the resources.

lol, well maybe you could check your other computers, they should have the password stored in their settings, and you may be able to copy it, otherwise reset the routers settings, and the encryption will be reset
