whats better for gaming or whats the difference in socket 775 or 478?

socket 775 is newer. Also the 945X and the 955 chipsets are socket 775. If you're getting a desktop, definitely the lga775.

I back what XHotxEx791 said, because, not only are 775 chips faster, 478 has been discontinued (that's why 775 are faster
), so if you're going to want to upgrade in the future, 775's the way to go.

the range of chip availble for the 775 is higer because it is the currently used chipset. Socket 478 is being phased out.
And the lastest chipsets for dual core 945G 945P, 955X are all for the skt775 dual core chips

on the same note, i have a p4 478 that i need a mobo for. id like to get an intel board, but where can i? or should i just go to frys or something

the 775 have alot more motherboard that support SLI, the 478 only have a few (i've only seen 1 before). The LGA775 cpu's cost a little more then the 478. And the 478's have more celeron chips than the 775. They are pretty much the same for gaming.
