I have a gateway 200 ARC. The CDRW drive is going bad on it. I need to replace it. Is there anyone out there who knows how to get the pdf or replacement guide. I've tried calling and writing gateway. They say it is a "non user replacement" part. Meaning They wont tell me how, and they want me to take it to a compusa or something. I can't afford that. Thank you so much.

where did you purchase this laptop and when? it's no longer under warranty?
http://www.mundocorp.com/product.asp?specific=joipeqpqg that part seems to be quite expensive. from the looks of it, it seems like there should be a latch that allows the part to be pulled straight out. you shouldnt have to unscrew anything but i could be wrong. |

It's no longer under warranty. Gateway will not guide me through removing the drive either. They wanted me to send the whole laptop to them and replace it themselves. I just want to purchase a new drive from newegg and replace it myself. I also don't want to dystroy my laptop. I'm looking for a guide to open up my system. I don't want a trial by error type thing. If anyone knows where I can find a walkthrough, I would really appreciate it.
