Default Gateway 200 ARC CDRW replacement info

I have a gateway 200 ARC. The CDRW drive is going bad on it. I need to replace it. Is there anyone out there who knows how to get the pdf or replacement guide. I've tried calling and writing gateway. They say it is a "non user replacement" part. Meaning They wont tell me how, and they want me to take it to a compusa or something. I can't afford that. Thank you so much.

where did you purchase this laptop and when? it's no longer under warranty?

that part seems to be quite expensive. from the looks of it, it seems like there should be a latch that allows the part to be pulled straight out. you shouldnt have to unscrew anything but i could be wrong.

Default From Gateway

It's no longer under warranty. Gateway will not guide me through removing the drive either. They wanted me to send the whole laptop to them and replace it themselves. I just want to purchase a new drive from newegg and replace it myself. I also don't want to dystroy my laptop. I'm looking for a guide to open up my system. I don't want a trial by error type thing. If anyone knows where I can find a walkthrough, I would really appreciate it.

does newegg have that part? i believe gateway uses proprietary parts and only their parts will fit the drive. i could be wrong.
