Default $550 Computer Build

I am on a tight budget and was wondering if you could help me out with a $550 computer build. I will be playing games on it, but don't need a really high tech vid card, because I will be OCing hopefully. I have a build so far and was wondering if it is good enough. It's 552.45 including shipping. By the way, I'm not afraid to purchase refurbished stuff of newegg, if it's faulty I can always send it back.

Vid Card - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...2E16814145058R

I'll just be using stock-cooling for now but once I have a few more dollars I'll get a few more fans. I'm not looking for a good upgradeable computer because this is my first build, and I have no job so I'll probably be doing a new build in a year or so. Not to mention, I'll be OCing everything possible, including RAM, CPU, MOBO, and VID card. Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Links fixed.

i suggest you spend an extra 15 dollars and get an amd 64 2800
much better performance. But if you get the amd 64 you'll need a socket 754 mb, which aren't that expensive.

I think you might be able to get a better video card with 120 bucks, check this link out http://www.monarchcomputer.com/Merch...ricewatch&NR=1

That didn't show the core clock or memory clock speed but I looked it up on newegg and the core clock is 175MHz slower and the memory clock was 400MHz slower. Not to mention it's not an NVidia which I think is superior to ATI.

I would go with a skt 754 setup for no added cost. You would get the benfits of built in memory controller and hypertransport from doing this. Also better upgrades options.

Here what I would do with no added cost
ASUS K8N Socket 754 NVIDIA nForce3 250 $70
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131512
AMD Athlon 64 2800+ Newcastle $120
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103485

That combination would cost you a total of $14 more. If that to much money then a cheaper thing you can do that would be even cheaper then the orginal choise and still better in my opioun is to go with the following cpu

AMD Sempron 2800+ Palermo Socket 754 $87
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819104224

A better video card would be
Radeon 9800PRO 128MB 256-bit DDR $120

Only one problem wiht what you suggested. I had an AMD athlon XP barton that had 2.085GHz, and the processors you suggested were slower, 1.8GHz max.

Does not matter the athlon 64 2800+ still a better performance despite the lower clock speeds. This is due to one it has a on-die memory controller while skt A has the memory controller on the motherboard. secound it uses hypertransport instead of FSB.

1. Yes but clockspeed is only a fair comparison benchmark when compariing with a series. When you cross platforms or series, lots of caveats pop up.
2. AthlonXPs are discontinued, higher clocks or not
