I just thought up some crazy idea that sounds (to me) like it might be able to happen. If you were on earth during the present, and were able to teleport to a planet thats 75 light years away (if there was one), then you teleport back to earth, and you would be 75 years in the past! For those of you who know nothing of astronomy, when you look at a star that about 100million light years away (or any star), your seeing it in the past.

no, wont work, it would be the same amount of time, if you left for an hour, when you got back to earth, it would be an hour later. there will never be time travel because there is no such thing as time, it a human invention to be able to tell when events happened or will happen, every thing in the universe happens at the same time, but we dont know about it because of the speed of light is so slow compared to the size of the universe.
at least this is what i belive

its not really time i guess, its called space time. But if you teleported to a place thats 50 light years away, it wouldnt take you 50 years to get there, it would be instantanious (or at least close to it).
Im kinda disproving my own theory here, but if that was true then theoretically there could be someone from the futre walking around here.

Well, not really... We still basically don't understand how time and light years and all that interact with eachother. But, I believe if you "teleport" as it is commonly accepted to be as a term, then like spacedude said, you'd just be gone for however long you left. Now if you gradually worked your way up to that speed, and etc. etc. then we get in to temporal physics and a whole bunch of other sciences that I'm sure none of us are qualified to discuss...

lol, just interesting to think about, also like, where does the universe end. If its round (like everything elsein the universe), then what would be beyond that "circle".
Antoher thing to think about has to do with the big bang, since a theory states that the universe has been growing since the big bang, and eventually when it spreads too much, it will fall and colapse back into a single point. And how did the object that cause the big bang originate? This should keep you wondering for a few hours. ![]()

Well, the thing that I've always wondered about the universe is, if it is infinitely large, then how can it be expanding? If it's expanding, then it has to have an end, if it has an end what lies beyond that end? And so on and so forth, I usually just have to stop before my brain starts hurting to much....

i know exactly what your talking about. When i was younger i use to wonder what was at the end of the universe, is it a giant brick wall?? and whats beyond that?? lol
im gonna go, spent way too much time here. lol

) would take you to the actual mass itself, not the old image that you see here on Earth. Not to mention that teleportation would require a superconducter with 0 resistance, and some reeeeeeeeeaaaaly long wires too .And actually, due to the properties of temporal mechanics, time travel of a sort is possible. Our friendly little fourth dimension (time) isn't exactly constant. Objects that are moving very fast experience what is called "time dilation". If you were to have 2 clocks; one stationary, and one moving at the speed of light, there would be a noticeable difference between the time showed on one clock versus that of the other. Traveling backwards in time is also (theoretically, i might add, with both forwards and backwards, time travel is still theoretical) possible. Since gravity is known to distort time/space it's theoretically possible to go backwards in time using careful manipulation of said force. The only problem is that to send a person through an object with enough force to sufficiently distort time/space (such as a black hole) will make them quite dead. Now, if we were to create/find a substance that has 0 conductive resistance, and if we were to perfect matter/energy conversion, we might be able to go back in time, but...that's an entirely different conversation.

astronomy always fascinated me, but unfortunately i never will have the grades or attitude to go further into that kind of career. all i want to do is talk about theories and look at stars...like a kid lol.
