you saying if you play music, like an mp3 in wmp you can hear it? Otherwise go into the properties for wmp and check that your sound device is enabled, and that the correct device is selected (on board sound, sound card, etc.)

Well, there is that option as well, thats choosing a sound device for your computer. However, the media player should also have those prefrences, for a sound device. In wmp, go to tools/ options/ devices/ speakers/ properties

do you get any sound from wmp? or only no sound with certain file types?
