Default no sound from center speaker

Hi all,

I just bought the Logitech X-530 5.1 speaker set, but I am not getting any sound from the center speaker. I've tried listening to dialogue on dvd's to test it, and I don't get anything from the center speaker.

I've changed the settings on my dvd software as well as in the sound options in Windows. The strange this is, whenever I change the speaker settings to "5.1 surround sound speakers" under Audio properties, it seems to change back to "quadraphonic speakers" every once in a while.

I'm running Windows XP SP2, with an Asus P5GD1 mobo w/ Realtek ALC861 built-in audio (supposed to support 7.1). I'm certain I have all the connections right in the back of my comp (three audio connections).

I'd really appreciate any help. Thanks a lot.

My sound card is equipped for 7.1, w/ all updated drivers installed. Why would that be the problem.

test it on an mp3 or cd player to see if it will work at all. If not your speaker is probably just broke or blown (has it worked at all even for a second since youve gotten it?)

Well, what do you have your sound card set to? Make sure that it is a 5.1 audio setting or something with a center channel and then try it again....

No, it hasn't worked at all yet. But mp3's (music files in general) don't utilize a center speaker. That's why I've been testing it on dialogue from a DVD. The speakers are brand new so I doubt its blown or broke.

What exactly do you mean? I've changed my audio properties to 5.1, and any relevant software. I'm not sure where else to change settings.

Well, most sound cards (at least mind does) come with its own separate control panel for the sound output, including effects and the format that the speakers are set on. Make sure that in this panel you have the right settings selected, although you have integrated audio and this might be most of the problem. These integrated audio things are not always reliable, if you really want to see if the speakers will do this, run out and pick up a card that should do 5.1 audio and then test it out. I would bet that the separate card will actually transmit the audio in the correct format, where the integrated audio might just be reverting back to some sort of mono set-up...

Alright. My roommate's gone for a few days. Maybe I'll steal his sound card and test it out.

Thanks for the help.
