Compaq laptop!

Hi!
I want to buy a used Compaq laptop with Win98. The owner say it has a problem: computer goes to Compaq's help program when you start it and you can't go to neither windows or dos. Is it a difficult problem to fix? Any ideas out there?

reinstall the OS when you get it.

are you able to get into the bios and change the boot order? if so make it boot off a 98 cd.
