Smile Major computer problems

I have two computer, both with major problems.

Computer one: To start with, each time I start windows XP Sp2 (the only I got) my cd-rom cant be found. Each time I got to go to controllpanel and install it everytime I start windows, and after that it works just fine. I got 3hdds and one cdrom.
And my CPU is a p4, and it gets overheated all the time, starts in 60 or more..

Computer two: It "hangs" itself, while working, could be anytime it just locks, cant move my mouse or anything. Cant find any reason why, so I though it would be the software because hardware problems usually reboots when they are having problems? I cant reboots if I dont press the reset button on the computer. I could be playing a game, or just typing, or just doing nothing.

*Forgot to mention* Windows XP SP2 on both computers, and I have had bad experience with it before, but never knows what to do.

Guys and girls, please help me, hope you understood my problems, I'm not used to talk about computer in English since its not my first language.

Admins, if this is the wrong place for this tread feel free to move it since I dont even know where the problem is...

CTRL+SHIFT+ESC = same as CTRL+ALT+DEL = get the activatecontroller or what its being called on English up. And the computer locks, can do ANYTHING. Cant type, move my mouse pointer. Not anything.

Is your second computer a gateway? Does it hang up when it boots? I have a gateway somewhere in my house that has some setting "hard disk boot latency", what that means is that it gives the hard drive a few seconds to turn on before it goes to windows. Maybe you can find it in your bios(by hitting the DEL or any of the F Key's on top of the keyboard when the computer is starting) and increase the seconds by a few. If you set the time too short, it won't boot and it will hang up as you said. On both your computers, have you tried to run programs such as Ad-Aware or Spybot? Spyware gets around real quick these days, you can get Ad-Aware at www.lavasoftusa.com

Well, it can go an hour in windows before it hangs so it not something that happened when it boots.. I have the newest Panda version and Ad-aware installed on both computers. Neither finds any virus not in normal mode or in "Safe mode".. Dont really know what its called but the thing you choose when you hold in f8 when booting the computer, and its being called "felsäkert läge" in swedish, should be something like "Fail safe mode" or something like that.. Anyway, no virus found by panda or by ad-aware. I have now worked the entire day with the computer without anything happens. (the first one) But I think that it could "hang" itself anytime. Dont think any problem has been fixed even though I have tried..

I own both newest Norton and newest Panda version so I wonder, which one is the best? Possibly I have virus that panda and ad-aware cant find but norton can? Is that a possibility?
