Hi Perham,

What make/model drive is Nero supposed to be detecting?

When you get a "drive in use" error it's most likely caused by a packet writing app such as InCD, DLA or Darg to Disc. Since you have Nero I'd suggest looking in Add/Remove Programs for InCD and unistall it. Part of how packet writing apps work is by keeping constant access to the drive so if another app tries to gain exclusive access to the drive for burning it won't be able to do so and therefore kill the burning process right away.

Windows built-in IMAPI burning service can do the same thing and is a useless app especially if you have dedictaed burning software installed. You can disable it using these steps:

Start >
Control Panel >
Administrative Tools >
Services >
Scroll down until you find "IMAPI CD Burning COM Service and double click it.
In the properties window find the drop down menu for "Startup Type" and select "Disabled". Press OK.

What version of Nero are you using?
Do you have any other burning software installed?

Here's a good utility for completely removing InCD:

Nail the service:
1. Start --> Run --> services.msc
2. Look for "IMAPI CD Burning COM service": and chang its startup type to disabled

Also with regards to IMAPI:
WindowsXP is a quirky OS when it comes to built-in burning capability. Many people claim to be able to burn fine. Many others have problems. Microsoft released an update to the IMAPI (which, FYI stands for Image Mastering Applications Programming Interface); that update can be found at http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;320174 Furthermore, Microsoft has adressed other burning issues with WindowsXP, see http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;324129
