ok i have a desktop in one room and i want to set up a laptop for my mom in her room. The desktop runs off of a cable modem in its room. What all do i need to get internet to the laptop in the other room. Thanks kyle
And i do not want to do any wireless conection on the desktop |

To get the internet to the laptop in the other room the simplest option would be to get an ethernet crossover cable and plug it in, then enable ICS on the desktop, although another (and far more expensive option) is to buy a router (wireless if you want to connect the laptop wirelessly) and then plug the cable modem into the router, then you desktop into the router via a ethernet port then if the laptop already has wireless connectivity built in then you should be able to just connect to the network, if not you will need to buy either a USB or laptop card adaptor, and hopefully you will have internet on both computers

what you send on the second post is the best option. at best buy over at US wireless b routers are after mail-in-rebate free of charge. go find a cheap little wireless b router and a cheap little wireless pcmcia card and you should be set. your mom will be happy
