what does sata 2.0 mean is it regular serial ata or sata II and what is that to

i believe SATAII is backwards compatible with SATA150

Well that it true, but that alone prob wont make a huge difference to performance, most hardrives dont make use of the 150MB/sec that sata150 provides (talking sustained throughput here not burst rate)
There are some other good features of Sata II, but the best is
1)native command queuing (NCQ), a few versions of which are out on some of the wd raptors
2)You can put more drives on one channel (this may be were the 3gb bandwidth is useful)
3) Ooww the cables can be longer

There are a few other benefits, but most are not of huge use to desktop users
