Default clicking hardrive.....

A couple of months ago i formatted and partioned a hard drive to put linux on it than it started making a clicking noise i called seagate and returned it, Now on the one i got i did the same thing and i started making a clicking noise. But only for about 2 seconds when i first turn it on and it starts booting up. Did i mess it up, do i need to return it( and pay shipping) or should i just leave it and hope it continues to worki?

It's called the click of death. Send that HDD back and get a different one. That one is broken, if your lucky it might last another week. if you have any files you need to get (like pictures only on that hdd) then put it in the freezer for a wile then it ill work with out clicking for about 10-20 min before its gone for ever so you have to transfer files fast. good luck and send it back.

no clicking in a hard drive is good. sounds like the hard drive is starting to go bad.

put the harddrive in the freezer? woah that's a bit extreme. Clicking anywhere in the computer is bad.

afterwards condensation will get into the hard drive. then the warranty is voided from water damage.

The clicking will only happen when it starts up. It's the first signs of the end.

The freezer trick is only to be used if the warranty is void and if the HDD doesn't work and you can't get your data back from it and you need it. The freezer trick will only work for like 10-20 min before the drive is dead for ever. It's just a last try tool if you really need somthing off the HDD.
