I am looking for a program that will enable me to capture video in mpeg format off commercial dvds. I AM NOT interested in distribution or piracy of any kind - I want to create a video screensaver using some of my home movies but I'm not sure what to do about actually ripping the video from the dvd. Is there a program that will let me do that?

dvd shrink will rip the dvd and take the copyright off.
it will back up the dvd in the .vob format, which will then need to be converted. i found a moderatly priced one at $29. the program says it also can rip the dvd but im not sure so ill provide a link for both. download dvd shrink converting program |

looks like its going to work the nuts... but i dont think it will let me capture segments of video as opposed to the whole thing all at once.... but thats not really a substantiated accusation because ive been playing with it for, what, 5 minutes?

After you have converted to a video file you can edit it with something like Windows Movie Maker.
