Default Black screen at start up

My friend was throwing his old computer away and I offered to take it. So, here I am with a difficult problem.
So, I checked out the wires, and everything seems fine besides a little bit of dust. I changed the psu with a 250w instead of a 75, and I upgraded the PC133 128mb ram with PC100 256. I also changed the old 20gb drive with my forgotten 120 gb. So, Im either guessing its the hd or the mobo.

Everytime I try to start up the ocmputer, the screen just stays black. The monitor still has that little orange light on its button. I don't even get to see the XP logo, or at least any other color besides black.

Any help would be great.

Does it have integrated graphics or are you using a vid card? Try switching out the card for another, if its an AGP card, and a tested card doesnt work, try using a PCI card. If it has a PCI card in there, and a tested one doesn't work, switch the slot.
Clearing the CMOS can't hurt either.
Knowing system specs would help a lot...
