Default Fraps

I just got FRAPS, and the program works and all, but do you know why it takes up so much cpu usage or whatever it does? my framerate on Halo drops from 30 (fixed rate) to around 19, and on Counter Strike: Source it goes from 40+ down to around 20 something. I have an AMD Sempron 2800+, is it because it takes up alot of cpu power to record video? it also happens when it takes a screenshot.

Ya, I have fraps, on my old PC my FPS dropped from like 30 to 10 in Halo, but that was with a P4 1.8 GHz. Now, with my new PC (an AMD 64 3000+), I can run fraps and Halo at the same time, with a FPS drop of only like 5 FPS.
