Well my browser crashed three times in a row when trying to reply to my previous thread, so I'm having to set up a new one.

Yes you're right it is a router, I always get the two confused. I can't see any specific brand name on the box or the router itself, it just says "ADSL Wireless-G Router".

You say that you need a modem between the router and the phone line? I did not know this, and the guy who installed it all never mentioned it. I always assumed that the modem was built into the router. It does have a steady read light under the text "ADSL", along with a lot of other lights on its front side...

Also, the ADSL USB modem I have has no way to connect to the router. The router only has LAN ports on the back (plus a DSL jack), so there is nowhere for the USB modem to plug in.

Another thing is, to install the router you are supposed to use a browser interface (i.e. you go into IE and type an address something like http://10.1.2.1.1/ or something), but when I try and do that the browser wants to connect to the internet! Doesn't work when I try doing it with "Work Offline" checked either.

But all this is irrelevant really until I figure out how to get the router and the computers to see each other! This is very frustrating!

i have never seen a router that lets u plug in usb for its network source. you have to usually plug in cat 5 from the dsl modem, to the router, and from the router is where you assign ip addresses to multiple computers. the address you use to access your router is a non routable, NAT ip address. if u are not connected to the network, then you wont be able to reach it.

also, be sure that you are not using a modem/router combo. they are rare, but they are out there. actiontec offers some of those. . .

Exactly...thats why I wonder, because the modem I got suppled is USB only.

I'd risk a guess that it might be one those...

It looks like I'm just going to have to wait until this bloke gets back from holiday!

you can try plugging the dsl modem's usb cable into a usb port on one computer, and then see if it gives that one computer internet access. also, if you can, post pics of the back of the modem, so we can take a look at that.
