windows media player output

I have a toshiba laptop and have always been able to output my windows media player screen to a TV (for playing dvd's.) I just had my laptop worked on and now I can still output the laptop monitor screen through video out to my TV. However, the Windows Media Player will display, but it will not show the actual DVD playing. Does anyone know why and could they help me please, thanks.

If you have an ATI video card (as Toshiba laptops usually have), then go to display properties / settings / advanced / overlay and check "Theater mode".

Make sure you also make the TV your "primary" display .. some players (WMP included) only FS to the primary display
