Question how do I split an external harddisk?

Hi there,
I'm kind of new to all of this, so if I sound stupid to you... I am stupid

Recently I bought GTA San Andreas. When I got home there was a bit of a panic, because my computer does not include a dvd player (it used to have but somehow the software got missing, and the store people tell me it's beyond fixing... I installed the game using an external dvd reader from a friend. Now, the dvd player is no longer available to me, and the game is highly addictive. Because of a lack of harddisk space, I bought an external harddisk to install the game. ( that's why I don't have the money to buy an external dvd player ) I thought that if I split the ( external ) harddisk and copy all the files from the dvd on that second half, telling my computer that that second half is in fact a dvd drive, I can play the game again. ( I recon I could borrow that external dvd drive again for a couple of hours ) Unfortunately I don't know how to split an external harddisk and how to tell my computer that one half is in fact a dvd drive. If you do, please let me know.
I run windows XP Professional.

Thanks in advance,

Me
