Default **Need Quick Reply, PLZ help**

Hey, im really needin a quick reply on thios coz im leaving in 1 hour (to go to hers and try to fix it)and i need to have it figured out my then.....(coz there is no working pc there to check this forum)

you may have read the previous post about the HP man breaking my girlfriends pc, well i think iv might have the problem narrowed down to a faulty boot.ini file. Ill try to recover win xp n all that but here is my question....

how can i edit the boot.ini from a command prompt before the pc boots up...coz u see it dont boot up and i know how to edit it from cmd when windows is running but when i use a ms dos boot disk or any other i have it says i cannot go to the c: directory, but i need to go there coz how i know to edit the boot.ini is this:

open cmd (in windows)
type
c:
cd\
attrib -r -a -s -h boot.ini
edit boot.ini

and that brings the file up for editing, but how can i do this since the PC wont boot up?

Please help...

thanks

Repair install windows is the easiest, as said in the previous post.

yes try a windows repair. do not use the repair console however. if you go past the windows agreement, windows will install any necessary system files. when it comes up with the screen that seems like a complete install of windows dont freak out. nothing will be erased.

As long he doesn't RE-install windows by mistake. Repair install just does the system files, a re-install (same but different) will want to reformat and re-install the files. When you get to your HDD list select the main drive and hit R (not recovery console like mentioned)
