only wireless internet works

I just bought a new notebook - HP Pavillion - and I could access the internet from an ethernet cable but now I cannot. Now I can access the internet via wireless connexion but cannot once I plug in the LAN cable. My computer-wiz stepsister suggested that it was a Norton restriction but I totally eliminated Norton from the computer and nothing has changed...

make sure your local area connection is enabled

go to run > cmd >> ipconfig and see if it says media disconnected or if there is an ip.
