When building a SLI setup, I know both cards have to be identical, but is it OK if we buy a 6800 GT from say Sapphire and a 6800 GT from Asus and put them in SLI? Would it work, or do both cards need to have same chipsets AND come from the same brand?

both need to be the same brand and revision.

(so you need 2 exacly identical cards )

Edit: with exception, the 7800GTX

ive seen a Aopen and a XFX work together in SLI already

with SLI you need to have 2 identical cards,.. except with the 7800GTX..
so if you are going for a 6600GT, 6800GT or 6800ULTRA, you'll need 2 exact the same cards.

i would always just go on the safe side and get 2 identical cards~
