Exclamation Problem with MSN Messenger.

A friend of mine is having trouble signing in to msn messenger (version 7) because each time he enters his username and password, a message box comes up saying something like, the service is unavailable and if you click the Retry button it happens over and over again. Reinstalling hasn't helped and he is running Win XP Home Edition.
I also have the new version 7 MSN Messenger and mine is working fine.
(i have Win98 SE )

Has anyone encountered this problem before, and does anyone know how to fix it?

Default Well

It could be blocked by a firewall. I would try and check for that. Sometimes, depending on where your hotmail account server is, the server may be under maintenance and not work for some time. In one case, this lasted for a day.

Version 6.2 works fine on his computer, but when he updated and tried to log-in, he kept getting the same message box saying that the service is unavailable.

Default Ok

In that case, something must be blocking it. Tell him to double-check his firewall settings.
