Default Wireless Access Points

Hi all, I'm new to this forum and I'm new to wireless networking. Currently I have a Netgear MR814 v3 802.11b Wireless Router downstairs in my house. I have 3 desktop computers hooked up to this router via network cables. So my question is, I have a laptop computer (with a MCMCIA Ethernet Adapter, not wireless card) upstairs in my room. Drilling holes in my home or moving the router are all out of the question. So I was looking into purchasing a Wireless PCMCIA Card however the majority of cards I found required a minimum system requirement of 200mhz+. My laptop is fairly old (133mhz) but I'm only going to be doing some light internet use and instant messaging with it. So right now I'm looking into purchasing a Wireless Access Point. What are the pros/cons about using Wireless Access Points? Do I need to purchase a Netgear branded Wireless Access Point in order for it to be compatible with my Netgear Wireless Router? Or do I just have to buy an Access Point that uses 802.11b and I'll be fine? Do you have any suggestions about Wireless Access Points or should I just scrap the entire idea all together? Is there another method of getting an internet connection on my 133mhz laptop without directly connecting it to my internet connection/router? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

You also remember that those are the "recomended minimum specs" They want their stuff to work fast... and well it wont on a 133mhz... I would say it will work fine. Also try hooking the wireless router where your laptop is to be most often.
