I have a dell inspiron 5100.. When ever i start the laptop the fan starts making noise and the laptop shuts off... i dont know what to do help.... thanks

sometimes it gets to the logon screen... Sometimes it loads all the way to windows... and sometimes it doesnt shut off it work even with the bad fan noise.

what is this bad fan noise, is it a grinding noise or just really noisy or is it a whining sound.

i think your CPU heatsink has gotten loos.. that way, the CPU heats up, and the mobo will shut it down because of the temperature. is there still warranty on the laptop?

it could be the cpu overheating. have you tried removing the fans and cleaning them out?

also, something may be rubbing against the fan such as a wire or something may have jarred loose. if its slowing the fan (and what you hear is the rubbing) the cpu will get too hot and the comp will automatically shut down.

1. heat sink is not in place n Fan may have some dirt.
2. Fit the heat sink. 3. Use vacuum cleaner to clean the fan n other outlets
