Computer Freezes While Starting

I have a Gateway Solo 5300 Windows ME Laptop, and it has beed freezing while starting. I can start it, get to the logon screen, open an account, and not do anythig else. So far, I can access the hard drive through our home network, but I only have read-only access. Could somone at least tell me how to start it?

The last thing I did on it was install WebTV for windows (80MB). There was about 958 MB of space left on the hard drive.

start in safe mode and remove the webtv... see if that helps..
