Well, I ran the memory test and not one error was found

I think i'll just throw everything in the bin and start again gah.

Why don't you start the installation directly from CD?

Thanks everybody!!

I finally managed to install XP by using a windows me boot disk then installing directly from CD.

For some reason the boot disk was setting my CD drive as Y: which I didn't realise.
