if i could make a suggestion, for the processor I would go with a 2400+ xp-mobile. I have one of those and it is awesome, it is fully unlocked (I believe), runs cooler and uses less energy.

u forgot about the case there, and i think zipzoomfly is suppose to be cheaper with free shipping
well you dont really need a case to run everything.

my comp plays the newest games (hl2, farcry, halo, ect) at high-highest settings with no lag
define "high-highest settings" and "no lag"

Quote:
and my system costs $200... of course that cause i already had the video card, hard drive and RAM.
and you got a good deal (i.e., damn near free) on the soundcard.

ECS KT600-A Via KT600 Athlon(XP)/Duron SktA DDR ATX Motherboard w/Audio, LAN, Serial ATA Retail *** Free 2nd Day ***

A bad choice for both ECS and Via

and i belive the 9600XT beats the 9800se
Maybe out of the box but no way it can pace with a 9800SE that you fixup

Quote:
You could do alot better then that, as long as you dont mind not doing it the "legal" way. Time for a black mask and a moneybag.(for the CPU's f coarse)
Just because you have 1700+ doesnt exempt you from a banning

Quote:
why get athlon xp when you can get a sempron?
Because for the socket class they are using, AthlonXPs are better

Quote:
I think the XP would be a better deal unless he goes for the socket 754, then he might as well get an athlon 64.
Well if he goes S754 then he should go for Sempron to save on the money

As above, crappy motherboard and chipset

Quote:
However, are you sure you only want a hard drive with ATA-100? That's a little slow. Wouldn't you want something of ATA-133 speed?
Wont make a difference whatsoever really (of course, if you can get ATA-6 for the price of ATA-5 then you might as well!)

Quote:
isn't the connection better/faster on an ata-133? or whats even the point of going higher then?
Obviously yes but will you notice the performance difference? Probably not
