do you and the school have different os (operating system).. that can be why.. or is it via usb? make sure your usb is working also.. if there is a driver.. your best option is to go that route.. what type of DV video camera is it

it goes through usb and the camara is a sony dv video cam. the camara didnt come with any cd with drivers is it possible they were forgotten. the camara is HI8 what is the best other option i have if i cant get it to work....i have also tried usb capture cards with very little success. as for the opperating system i have tried this camara on all 3 of my comps. one has win2000 and the others have xp.

camaro first off it does have firewire most sony cam do check web for spec and look for 1 x IEEE 1394 (FireWire/i.LINK). Maybe thats way you been having problem with it your school has it hooked up by firewire. Second I don't think it has usb 2 so just stick to firewire youll get a better quality video.

first since your connecting via usb you will need a driver as said above. if you have a dv camara it should have a 4 pin firewire port on it. buy a firewire cord for 7 bucks USD that is a 4 pin to 6 pin if you have a 6 pin firewire port on your computer. firewire dosent require drivers. it might help, ive never used pinnacle with usb so i wouldnt know about that. firewire is my only reccomendation. less dropped frames too
