Download and run Killbox
copy and past the following url into the "Full Path of File to Delete" box. C:\WINDOWS\system32\winstyle32.dll check "Standard File Kill" check "End Explorer Shell while Killing File" Now click the red X button to kill the file (your icons will temporarily diappear, thats ok). Now do the same process with the next file: C:\WINDOWS\q5596328_disk.dll Also, check the following line in Hijackthis and then reboot the machine. O20 - Winlogon Notify: style32 - C:\WINDOWS\q5596328_disk.dll Post back with another log and let me know how the kill goes..

thanks for the help to date......
still have some issues....... the file C:\WINDOWS\q5596328_disk.dll has been successfully deleted..... however neither killbox nor hijackthis can seem to delete C:\WINDOWS\system32\winstyle32.dll I keep the getting the message "can not delete this file" To further complicate things norton now does not pick the style32.dll as a virus. ive already tried fixing the 020 winlogin style32 C:\WINDOWS\system32\winstyle32.dll checkbox and then attempting to delete the style32 file however that does not work either??? Anymore suggestions???? this is the new log gfile of HijackThis v1.99.1 Scan saved at 1:09:28 PM, on 8/09/2005 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180) Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccEvtMgr.exe C:\Program Files\Norton Internet Security\NISUM.EXE C:\Program Files\Norton Internet Security\ccPxySvc.exe C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\navapsvc.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\Security Center\SymWSC.exe C:\WINDOWS\SOUNDMAN.EXE C:\WINDOWS\essspk.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccApp.exe C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_04\bin\jusched.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe C:\Program Files\Winamp\winampa.exe C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe C:\Program Files\Symantec\LiveUpdate\ALUNOTIFY.EXE C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\MsnMsgr.Exe C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe C:\Documents and Settings\Ross Kirkman\Desktop\hijackthis\HijackThis.exe R1 - You may want to print out these instructions first...
Download Kaspersky AntiVirus. Disable your realtime scanner of your antivirus program. Install and open Kaspersky, Click the "Configure Real-time Protection" link, on EACH tab uncheck the "Enable Real-time..." click OK. Click the "Update Now" link, let it download the updates. Now boot your computer to safemode (tapping the F8 key when booting up). Right-click the Windows taskbar and click Task Manager, click the "Processes" tab, leave Task Manager open and visable. Open Kaspersky and move it so that you can see both Kaspersky and part of Task Manager on your screen. Now, click on Task Manager to bring it to the front and find the process named "exlporer.exe", right-click it and choose "End Process". (your icons and taskbar will disappear, that's ok). ***IMPORTANT: Leave BOTH Task Manager AND Kaspersky open. Do NOT close either one! Click on Kaspersky to bring it to the front and Click the "Scan My Computer" link. Let the scan finish. After the scan is finished, Click on Task Manager to bring it to the front. Click the file menu, select "New Task (Run)", then type "explorer.exe" (without the quotation marks), then click OK, (your icons and taskbar will come back). In Kaspersky, goto the Reports link, you will find the results of your "Scan My Computer" virus scan that you just did, double click it, and click the "Reports" tab and the "Export detailed report to a file" link. Save the file on your desktop. Close out of the program and reboot normal, post the contents of that report here for me.
