floppy disk question

hi, I'm a novice in computers and I have a question...I used a floppy disk for many times and now is filled with a lot of important information for me. the problem is that everytime I try to make any changes or to delete files I get a message that tells me that the disk is "write-protected" and the only way to make changes is to move the write-protection. how do I do that? Thank you!

Write-protection on 5 1/4" disks this is done by folding a sticky tab over the write protect slot; on 3 1/2" disks by sliding a plastic tab into the open position.

Man, 5 1/4 floppy discs... Rememebr those things. Heck...What the heck is a floppy disk anyhow...My computer does not even have one of those drives!

If you think that 5.25" floppy disk is an ancient invention, then what about the 8" floppy disk?
It's hard to believe, but I wrote my first program on punched cards...
