a good deal?

A friend asked me to recommend a good all round dtr but i thought id check here before telling him to get the amilo 3438g 17" for £949
its pm 1.73
geforce go 6800 256mb
512 ram
80gb hd
17" wxga 1440x1150
dual layer dvd burner
wi-fi
xp-home

Is there anything better out there under £1000

The amilo looks to be a great machine but he doesnt need a goforce 6800 so is it a waste of money? or would a cheaper graphics card and more ram or a faster processor be a better way to spend the cash?

widescreen for dvds is important but not for game playing
