also would it be better to just do 512 RAM instead of 1G and put the money on the video card upgrade?

Look at my specs below. The system costed 800$, and I can run doom three almost on ULTRA, and no lag at all. Think about it.... Great system.

what do the internet sellers mean when they say -ASSEMBLED , INSTALLED UPDATED AND TUNED?
Just a bunch of marketing hocus pocus for "building a computer"

If I build my own system - how do I tune the system to where there will be less conflicts?
If you mean hardware conflicts.... choose good parts (which we've taken the liberty of doing)....if you mean software conflicts .... the internet sellers wont do that regardless and you'll still have to do it on your own

Probably not. The 5900XT isnt a "bad" card by any means (nor is the 6600GT which would be a better route if you can wait till october for the AGP version) .. you'll find the 1GB in DualChannel a lot more useful.

Define "almost". Even when i swap a 6800GT into my system, running on Ultra is still a b!tch at high res. (PS how are you running Dual Channel when you're using three slots...which invariably disables dual channel ). But regardless the setup is good but certainly obsolete (especially so comapred to the setup we've spec'd as well as the nearest P4 setup)

Praetor,

if i need to cut the price down and go athlon XP - would this cpu and motherboard be compatible with the other parts you listed?

Motherboard Asus A7N8X-E duluxe - $84

AMD athlon XP-3200+ barton $200

This will cut the price down by $250 which can go to an upper level video card - but i dont know how long i can keep this cpu - might get obsolete pretty soon - you think i can go with this for the next 3-4 years?

If you need to cut the price down, i'd go P4C ... certainly not hard to squeeze into $1200 and more performance than the A32s

Its already obsolete ... you can save more money if you had to by getting a XP2500 or XP2800 and OCing it as they are very OC friendly

tnx again - ill strongly consider the first recommendation of athlon 64 030 pin $425 and the MSI mobo.
this might last a while - keeping it at leats 4 years before i spend again.

I dunno if you can find them or not but consider looking for lower-clocked A64(Socket939s) ... the 3400+ was the lowest i could find ... i dunno if the 3200 exists as a socket939 or not but that'll save you money. Also if you wait for the 6600GT (Oct) the prices will definitely drop

im currently being tortured, tormented by my dell P3 dimension 4100 - it has a 128 ram and has an ATI 32 mb video card 7200 series.

im going to upgrade it a bit as i found a cheap ati radeon 9200 for $25 here at a garage sale - and ill upgrade the RAM - ill add another 256 MB to the 128.Ill use this computer for email - websurfing , and old games .

the new one im going to build will be strictly for newer games and office application + plaing some movies on dvd.

I think waiting a month is worth the wait but it's your money, your call
