Hi All,
Not sure if this is the right group to post in (please tell me right post if not) , but recently Windows takes forever to shut down, even just to restart.. It closes down to the point of sticking on 'Shutting Down' where at this point it holds for more than 10 minutes some times, and the system fans kick causes it to sound like it i am running loads of programs. Does anyone have any solution to this, or what the problem is. I really don't want to reinstall windows, i only done that a few weeks ago! I have tried everything from uninstalling programs to complete defrags all of which speed the shutdown but to the same point. Help Ryan |

This is the problem, i don't really have an idea. I have removed many programs such as iTunes, spyware programs etc that may have caused it but no luck there, so reinstalled. I am guessing reinstall Windows now?
Would programs cause a problem with reboots too? I have Internet Security 2005 also. |

Do you get any warning messages, saying "so snd so program not responding"? Also, after you have closed all programs, and just before you go to log off, open "Task Manager" and look under the "Applications" tab to see if any programs are listed as still running. Also, while in "Task Manager", check under the "Processes" tab to see if any apps. are sucking alot of resources from the CPU. I've had to un-install Norton Internet Security twice in the last 6 months because parts of it (ccApps) weren't shutting down. Check it out. |

yeah Norton internet security did it for me
so I went into msconfig by going to... 1)START 2)RUN 3)type in msconfig 4)go to the very last tab and find ccApps 5)"uncheck" the box next to it 6) and press ok or whatever is at the bottom 7) it will ask you to restart the computer...do it 8) when you restart it it will say something acknowledging that you changed this that and the other...press ok and dont show this again or whatever 9) your computer should shut down really fast now!!!! I checked in windows to make sure internet securty still runs and it says it does...so i dont know why they even run ccApps??!! beats me. if you have any problems you can email me at corbingoerlich@yahoo.com

Tried disabling that and other programs, all of which seemed to make my computer run slower! Once it was restored worked fine again in start up etc however my computer still holds on shutdown.
Because of where it holds i can't see if there is any program that is holding it up. I have tried everything i feel now apart from reinstalling, such as reg cleaners which i think make it worse, defrag, window cleaners etc. Could it be a HD issue?

What Grasshopper said is true, sometime Windows failed to close the applications or services. My advice is, try to reinstall or uninstall it completely and let those software configure it's configuration automatically.
If you have some hardware which not responding since it bussy or shared, also can cause that problem.
