The other day i was trying to clean my cpu fan but when i tried to turn on the comp, i got tons of problems.
I opened up my pc and had a bit of difficulty taking out the fan but forgot to resecure the two straps before powering on (dont think the heatsink was making full contact with the chip). Everything loaded up normally (my monitor actually picked up the signal) and i could see everything running as i didn;t have the side panel on. After the screen where it displays all the info about your comp and access to bios, instead of displaying the win xp load screen, a black screen came up instead so i restarted. This time my monitor didn't pick up a signal at all. My comp was prob on for a total of 15-20secs the first tme and 5 secs the second time. Then i opened up my comp again and successfully managed to get the fan and the heatsink out so i could clean them. Just after i secured the fan and the heatsink and closed the case i remembered that i forgot to place any thermal paste. I figured i'd put some on after the problem with the monitor was fixed, seeing as i didn;t have any thermal paste at the time. Anyways i loaded up and the monitor still displayed the message , 'no signal imput'. I then restarted my comp and left it to boot up again, i figured maybe it will work when the comp boots up fully. This time, after about 30 secs the comp just shut off. I tried pressing the on button but it didn't work. I opened the case, checked alll the wires and put in my old ati radeon 9200. Still the comp didn't load up and then i held the button and the comp booted. I still got the, "no signal" message but least my comp was starting up. A good friend of mine came over later that day and he fiddled round and checked everything. He removed one of the molex wires connecting the fan and turned on the comp. As soon as he plugged it back in, the pc shut off. Is my psu faulty or is my mobo just fried? |
