Lol, oh man, I bought the X-Fi Xtreme Music card, the difference is incredible. And yes, I guess it helps out the speed too, and to me if i could scratch out 5% more speed somewhere, I'd do it without hesitation. So no matter how you look at it, a sound card to me is a must.

My old motherboard had great 7.1 onboard, but with my new one, I had to put my 5.1 SB live back in.
